Drawings, Renderings, Models #1: May

We have started a new section to our website, it is called DRM, where we show off the best "DRAWINGS, RENDERINGS, MODELS" found on the social platform Instagram. We used to call it Weekly Projects, but we have changed it to showcasing every category for a full month instead. We take three weeks in a month = 3 categories displayed.

by:  @adlarchitecture ・・・ Masters of architecture Final year Studio - Multi-residential project in progress by @wanying_qin  'Visible' is a building which provides the retail, medical treatment and apartments. The theme of orientation is not only respond to the sun but also the wind direction and other nature elements. The shape of building is based on the wind direction of Adelaide and try to create the natural ventilation for the building. Furthermore, the key element of 'Visible' is the wind. The kinetic facade of the building is activated by the changing directions of the wind, whilst providing shade for the users. Light is further managed in the Podium through a translucent polycarbonate glass plank which can avoid the strong sunshine of Australia but import the daylight into the building efficiently.

Shared by:  @ricearch ・・・ Congrats to Students Drew Heller, Isabella Marcotulli & Ibrahim Salman. They received Honourable Mention for their project "Chronos" in Planetarium, Eleven’s 6th international design and ideas competition. In this competition, Eleven asked the international creative community if architecture itself could become – once again – a tool for experiencing and understanding space. How can architecture engage with and enhance today’s renewed age of space exploration and discovery? What does the next generation of Planetariums look like? PROJECT CONCEPT: In Chronos: The Space-Time Planetarium users perceive astronomical scenes at different rates, thus simulating the intrinsic connection between space and time. Six varied architectural strategies engage users with the enveloping media at contrasting speeds and time relations (past, present, and future) in order to challenge their understanding of the universe. Only after the users travel through the entire planetarium do they comprehend its organization.

The Billboard: Physical Model

By:  @ns_architecture ・・・ 3B: Collaboration with @free_studios  : Super Contingent: Final Model Photos: The project deals with the idea of context in various architectural issues such as; ground and immediate context, organization and program, texture and material, massing, aperture and tectonics. The site in which the project is proposed is located in the historical downtown of Mexico City. (50 Bucarelli). The site is a residual infill site that is a sort of leftover from the surrounding existing buildings within the block. The most striking issues concerning the site and the context are following; the difficulty of circulation and access, the architectural use of the irregular leftover void, the lack of open public area within the block and surrounding context, poor building and terrible aesthetic conditions (damages, cracks and untreated surfaces. etc.) One of the central aims of the projects is to produce a project which is interdependent with its context. The building must not survive without the context. Nor, should the immediate context be able to survive without the building. The building becomes completely valueless without it’s context. The project does not standout monumentally from the site but immerses itself with the site to produce a new whole. The autonomy of the project is sacrificed for the benefit of the context. In terms of mass, volume and scale project is essentially an aggregation of pre-existing masses and volumes collected from the surrounding blocks and reconfigured to produce a new massing under the new given conditions. Even though the project does not seem to be in scalar relationship with the macro and micro context as a whole, it ‘s partial volumetric scale is in consistent and constant relationship with the context.

By:  @kaaylanoel ・・・ my actual child. she deserves to be in both my story AND my feed. this is probably my favorite project that I’ve created my entire time at sacd, and it’s crazy because I created it with a RIDICULOUS time crunch (and the project before this one was actually really bad, but whatever.) and my jury presentation for this project was pretty good! this semester was an insane balancing act and I’m soOoooOoo glad it’s over. I think this semester made me more confident as a creative and made me realize that i’m basically a 1/3 of the way through my masters degree?? and i’m actually good at this?? like I’ll really get better with time? and dedication??? idk i’m not boasting or anything. just believing in myself 🤷🏾‍♀️ so gaze at my child, in all of her beautiful glory. also, shout out to all the homies that sacrificed their time for me and that I didn’t spend time with because I was in studio. y’all know ✊🏾 the highline annex of the morgan library new york city | 2017
